Whirlpool Dishwasher Not Spraying Water? How I Fixed Weak Water Flow
When a dishwasher stops cleaning well, the problem is not always obvious from the outside. In my case, the dishes were coming out dirty because the water flow inside the dishwasher was very weak and the spray arms were not rotating the way they should.
To see what was really happening, I placed my iPhone inside the dishwasher during a test cycle. That showed the problem clearly: there was water, but not enough pressure to spin the spray arms properly.

Quick Summary #
The dishwasher was not spraying water strongly because the circulation pump was clogged with old food debris. After cleaning the pump, the water flow improved, but the middle spray arm still did not rotate. I opened that spray arm and found more food debris inside. Once both clogs were cleaned out, the dishwasher started working properly again.

Parts Mentioned #
This repair was mostly a cleaning job, but the video description included a couple of replacement parts to check if cleaning does not solve the problem or if a part is damaged:
Always confirm the part number for your specific dishwasher before ordering a replacement.
Check the Water Flow First #
The first clue was poor cleaning performance. Instead of guessing, I put a phone inside the dishwasher to record what happened during the wash cycle.
The recording showed weak water flow and spray arms that were not rotating. That pointed toward a circulation problem rather than a simple loading issue or detergent problem.
Access the Circulation Pump #
After seeing the weak spray, I pulled the dishwasher out from the kitchen cabinet, laid it on its side, and looked underneath.
The circulation pump is mounted under the dishwasher. Its job is to recirculate water through the spray arms during the wash cycle, so if it is clogged or not moving enough water, the dishwasher will not clean correctly.

Remove the Pump #
To remove the pump, press the locking tab slightly and turn the pump counterclockwise. Once it unlocks, it can be pulled out for inspection.

With the pump removed, the problem was easy to see. The inlet was completely clogged with old food particles and debris.

I cleaned the debris out of the pump, reinstalled it, and ran another test with the phone inside the dishwasher. The water flow was much stronger after cleaning the pump.
Clean the Middle Spray Arm #
Even though the pump cleaning improved the water pressure, the middle spray arm still was not rotating. That meant there was another blockage farther along the water path.
I removed and opened the middle spray arm to inspect it. Inside, it was also clogged with old food debris.

The clog included small pieces of food trapped inside the arm, blocking water from spraying correctly.

After cleaning out the spray arm and putting it back together, the dishwasher worked perfectly again.
Final Thoughts #
If your Whirlpool dishwasher is not spraying water strongly or the spray arms are not spinning, check for clogs before replacing parts. In this case, cleaning the circulation pump and the middle spray arm was enough to restore normal water flow and cleaning performance.
The phone test was also useful because it showed what was happening inside the dishwasher during the wash cycle. If the spray looks weak or the arms are not moving, a clogged pump or spray arm is a good place to start.
